A Day in the Life: Realtor® Edition

Usually amidst the barrage of questions real estate agents receive, somewhere along the line they are asked in one way or another “what does your day consist of?” and this forum is to answer just that! I basically wanted to provide a glimpse into a Realtor’s daily timeline to hopefully give you an understanding of the work we do to provide you with that unparalleled, gold standard of service!

5:00AM - Wake up, review my journal, add any pertinent information, check calendar, and prepare mentally for the day ahead!

6:00AM - Weightlifting workout, often listening to a plethora of podcasts on market updates or new techniques in the real estate field.

7:00AM - Cardiovascular workout (such as the Stairmaster, the treadmill on an incline, cycling, or erging), usually listening to topics regarding content production that will best equip me to improve my outreach and listing advertisements.

8:00AM - Market research and MLS scan, checking for new listings, price changes, market trends, identifying potential matches for clients, and prep for property alerts. Emails, follow-ups, and social media content, whether it’s responding to the slew of messages, posting engaging content or market updates online, or following up with the previous day’s leads. Third party check-ins and office meetings, touch-basing with anyone from assistants, lenders, stagers, videographers, photographers, mortgage specialists, engineers, home inspectors, or anyone pertinent to the coming day’s schedule.

9:00AM - Client appointments and showings, which could include meeting with buyers for private showings, conducting listing presentations with sellers, or involve property tours or in-office consultations.

11:00AM - Negotiations and paperwork, such as drafting or reviewing offers, negotiating contracts, and collaborating with attorneys or escrow agents to keep deals moving smoothly.

12:00PM - Lunch and relationship building, if I have the chance I will share my lunch with past clients, other professionals, or anyone else who can turn my lunchtime into a productive takeaway!

1:00PM - Open house prep or staging visits, which could include coordinating with stagers or photographers, ensuring the home is show-ready, and checking on marketing materials like feature sheets or virtual tours.

3:00PM - More showings, listing appointments or buyer tours, as this is prime time for client work - showing multiple homes, writing offers, securing new listings, or doing any work that will further listing success.

5:00PM - Open houses or community engagement, weekday open houses or local events are both ways that I keep myself engaged with my client’s properties or with the community at large to expand my network.

7:00PM - Client calls and late-night follow-ups, as some clients can only talk after work (catching up, explaining contracts, calming nerves, etc.) or continuing offer negotiations depending on the situation.

9:00PM - Admin wrap-up and daily recap, logging activity, updating my CRM, sending thank-you notes or follow-up emails, and planning tomorrow’s schedule

10:00PM - Unwinding with a book in hand and any number of favourite mystery shows on in the background, unless of course I need to get a jump on tomorrow’s schedule!

11:00PM - Doze off with happy thoughts of happy clients!

I’ll be the first to admit I don’t EXACTLY doze off with consistently happy thoughts, but by putting my best work forward on a consistent basis I can at least stand tall knowing I prioritize my friends who have become my clients above all else! Of course this is just a modge-podge of regular routines but they are forever changing as every day brings new things to be done and its new host of problems! Nevertheless, I take great pride and joy in knowing that my work gives me the best chance at providing you with a triumphant success in the real estate market!
