Fall marks the time of the year where some of my favourite fall festivals and activities hit and we slowly batten the hatches for whatever winter may have in store for us! Nevertheless, fall marks a great point in the year to go through a quick maintenance checklist of some tasks to get done before the snow begins to fall. Whether you choose a couple or all of the points listed, it is meant to provide a framework for what things you might want to look at that often slip our minds, or perhaps your process already covers these points, in that case bravo!
Fall
Clear gutters and downspouts of leaves and debris
Winterize irrigation systems and outdoor faucets
Schedule furnace or boiler maintenance
Check and replace weatherstripping around windows and doors
Drain and store garden hoses
Inspect and clean chimney and fireplace
Rake and compost fallen leaves
Prepare and store outdoor furniture
Inspect roof shingles, flashing, and vents before snowfall
Test sump pump (especially before heavy rain)
Stock up on ice melt, shovels, and emergency supplies
Inspect attic ventilation
These are only a few of some of the most common fall home-care pointers, but if you have any other important tips or have questions regarding some of these tasks feel free to let me know!
